Day 11: Rebel Alliance

Day 11: Rebel Alliance

With the window painting project still under way, I'm short on time..so pendants it is the next few days.

I've been playing around with the idea of offering customizable pendants for a while now. I had tried various methods : all stained glass, painting, soldering overlays.. but it seems like foil overlays under a clear piece of glass is my best bet.

This guy didn't get cut as cleanly as I would have liked, but that's what demos are for. Have to try pretty much every design to make sure it'll work in the sizing I'm thinking of.

Day 10: Transformers

Day 10: Transformers

With the window painting project still under way, I'm short on time..so pendants it is the next few days.

Testing pendant designs and color:

Autobot and Decepticon!!

Worked out much better than the soldered overlay attempts. The lead-free solder was worked at a temp that was too high, so it would cause the adhesive on the foil to come loose.

Day 9: Wolverine

Day 9: Wolverine

With the window painting project still under way, I'm short on time..so pendants it is the next few days.

I've been playing around with the idea of offering customizable pendants for a while now. I had tried various methods : all stained glass, painting, soldering overlays.. but it seems like foil overlays under a clear piece of glass is my best bet.

I was testing pendant designs and color for some Marvel heroes: Wolverine, Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America. Not sure what happened to the Avengers, so you just get a shot of Wolverine tonyte. I even went with the old yellow and blue coloring. He's a bit of a mess, but I wanted to see how easy it was to do multi-piece/multi color layouts.

Day 8: Mermaid

Day 8: Mermaid pendant

When I don't have a lot of time to work, pendants are the perfect thing.

This little mermaid is a foil overlay that has been soldered. I was debating on whether or not to patina her black, but I think the silver is looking pretty good.

Day 7: Rocketship

The day after Jerry Nelson passed away, another figure who gave rise to the dreams of generations did the same: Neil Armstrong.

"That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." -Neil Armstrong, as he stepped onto the surface of the moon.

Day 7: Rocketship (in memory of Neil Armstrong)

Ship pattern.

It's hard to tell in the pic, but the ship is actually a clear glue-chip glass. Glue-chip gives off a cool frosted, icy look.

Day 6: Count von Count

I loved watching Sesame Street while I was growing up and Count von Count was one of my favorite characters. I was sad to hear that Jerry Nelson, the puppeteer and voice actor for The Count (and a ton of other characters), passed away on the 24th. He performed the role of The Count for 40 years and helped bring joy to generations of kids. May his contributions be remembered for (at least) another 40 years!

Hmm..I may end up adding his eyes in the future..not sure..

Day 5: Happy Cherries

Today is officially the hubby's birthday! Happy birthday Devilman; I love you!!! =^.^=

Day 5: Happy Cherries

This project was a continuation of the kawaii theme. I love how you can add a face to almost anything and make it cute and/or evil.

Day 4: Tetris pendants

Day 4: Tetris piece pendants

I didn't have much time to work, so needed to make something simple. I've had a ton of squares cut for Tetris pendants and just went ahead and soldered a new batch.

So far, I've only made the purple T and the teal line pieces. I plan on eventually making pendants for all of the pieces though.

Day 3: Angry Clouds

Day 3: Angry Clouds

Ended up going to the opposite end of the spectrum for this project, from rock icons to kawaii.

Day 2: Danzig Skull

Day 2: Danzig skull

I've been a big Danzig fan for a long time. I've had the skull pattern drawn up for a while and figured now was the perfect time to knock it out.

Here he is all cut and ground. I even fed the beast with my own blood.

Blog is finally up; Glasscraft-a-day:Day 1 - Eddie

It's taken me years, but look..the blog is finally active!

Might as well start it off with my latest project: Glasscraft-A-Day.

Ever since seeing the Skull-A-Day blog back in 2007 or 2008, I wanted to eventually start my own craft-a-day project. It's taken a while, but now seemed like the perfect time to finally go ahead and dedicate myself to it. I'll be posting a different glass project every day. Let's see if I can keep this baby up for 365 days!

I'll also be posting other projects I'm working on, random things I find entertaining, and so forth.

Feel free to submit images or themes you'd like to see in glass!

Day 1: Eddie (Iron Maiden) suncatcher

Iron Maiden played a show in Houston over the weekend. Unfortunately, we were unable to attend this time around. Since I was working on glass at the time the show was going on anyway, I decided that my next piece would be something dedicated to Maiden!

I've had a Trooper panel drawn up for a while, so decided to use this image for Eddie's skull (simplified, of course).

Gotta say, the glass used for his flesh ended up being a total pain in the a**. Almost every piece wanted to run its score in a different direction. I haven't had a sheet of glass be this much of a hassle in a very long time. But hey, at least he's done!
